Narrative:
This report is in reference to an event that occurred on my flight back from bogota, colombia, to miami, fl. After carefully reviewing the weight and balance form during the flight I found that we had exceeded some of the zone compartment weights. Some of the contributing factors leading into this event are the following: the crew was on duty for approximately 15 hours, not having a load master on board, and I relied on my experienced first officer, who has been with the company for over 7 yrs. The meteorology conditions at eldorado international airport at departure time were winds calm, with a light rain shower, and temperature of 8 degrees C. I have advised the company of my mistakes and have requested for them to put a load master on these flts. Supplemental information from acn 328394: exceeding the 'zone compartment weight' was caused by our shifting the weights around to obtain a better center of gravity in bogota.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DC8 FLC EXCEEDED ZONE COMPARTMENT WT LIMITATIONS. PRIOR TO DEP, THE ACFT WT NEEDED TO BE SHIFTED IN ORDER TO OBTAIN AN ACCEPTABLE CTR OF GRAVITY. DURING CONDITIONS OF NIGHTTIME RAIN AND A LONG DUTY DAY, THE FLC HAD TO REDISTRIBUTE THE ENTIRE LOAD AND MADE ERRORS IN THE PROCESS.

SOME OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS LEADING INTO THIS EVENT ARE THE FOLLOWING: THE CREW WAS ON DUTY FOR APPROX 15 HRS, NOT HAVING A LOAD MASTER ON BOARD, AND I RELIED ON MY EXPERIENCED FO, WHO HAS BEEN WITH THE COMPANY FOR OVER 7 YRS.
