Narrative:
During taxi out, another air carrier reported flames coming from my B767 'tailpipe.' pdx tower confirmed smoke and flames. Pdx called fire department (did not advise me). We shut down APU (no indications of fire on gauges). Fire marshall advised to evacuate/evacuation. I evacuate/evacuationed B767. No serious injury -- 3 minor. Probable cause of flame is tailpipe fire in APU. Corrective -- train fire marshals better in location of APU, APU intake and non-serious nature of APU tailpipe fire.
