Narrative:
Aircraft was cleared to descend from FL330 to FL240. The FMS was set for the descent and the descent begun. The aircraft passed through FL240 to FL236 before it was manually corrected back to FL240. The arming mechanism for the altitude alerter apparently malfunctioned.

Title: FLC OVERSHOT ALT WHEN THE FMS PROGRAMMING FAILED TO CAPTURE AT THE ASSIGNED ALT. THE FLC RPTED THAT THE ARMING MECHANISM FOR THE ALT ALERTER APPARENTLY MALFUNCTIONED.
Narrative: ACFT WAS CLRED TO DSND FROM FL330 TO FL240. THE FMS WAS SET FOR THE DSCNT AND THE DSCNT BEGUN. THE ACFT PASSED THROUGH FL240 TO FL236 BEFORE IT WAS MANUALLY CORRECTED BACK TO FL240. THE ARMING MECHANISM FOR THE ALT ALERTER APPARENTLY MALFUNCTIONED.
