Narrative:
Location: 15 mi wnw of fll. While on a vector to fll at 8000 ft, we received a clearance to what we understood as 6000 ft, which we read back, with a TA. The autoplt was engaged and we were observing the traffic on TCASII. Passing 7000 ft we noticed that the traffic had leveled off at 6000 ft, so we slowed our rate of descent as the TCASII gave us a TA. As we approached 6500 ft we leveled off as TCASII gave us a monitor vertical speed. At that point the controller said climb back to 7000 ft which he said was our clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MISCOM ON ALT CLRNC. FLC HEARD 6000 FT AND READ IT BACK, BUT THEN LEVELED WHEN TCASII SHOWED ACFT BELOW. CTLR SAID THEIR ALT CLRNC WAS 7000 FT.
