Narrative:
On climb out of dtw en route phl we heard a loud bang accompanied by a yaw to right. Engine parameters remained stable. Unsure of the exact problem, we elected to return to dtw as a precautionary measure. After landing, an exterior inspection revealed substantial damage to the #2 engine. Priority handling was requested on our part to expedite our return. Quick work on everyone's part averted a potentially serious situation.
