Narrative:

Air carrier flight departed iad at XA45, mar/wed/96, from runway 19L. After making contact with iad departure we were told to turn right to 250 degrees and climb and maintain 7000 ft. The first officer was the PF. Departure then asked us to turn right to 360 degrees and climb and maintain 12000 ft. The next turn was right to 060 degrees. At 11200 ft we were asked if we were given 10000 ft. I said 'no sir, we were given 12000 ft.' the controller then said 'maintain that altitude and contact iad departure.' we did, and iad departure said 'maintain 12000 ft.' no more was said.
