Narrative:

A military C130 departed pope aaf. 10 mi northwest of pope out of 4000 ft the aircraft dropped off the radar screen. It did not go into the coast suspend list. I checked the ZDC and rdu approach and both facilities had good targets and good mode C. Out of 10200 ft the aircraft retagged. This is a fairly common problem at fay. It seems that no one here thinks it's that big of a problem. It is reported almost daily to the supervisor but never is put into the daily log. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the problem is not limited to a specific area. He said that he was the track owner when the reported target dropped and that there was no coasting displayed, nor did the data go into the coast/suspend list. He initially felt that the target drop had something to do with the aircraft but when other facilities were observing the target he changed his mind and now feels it is a radar problem. Reporter indicated that facility maintenance is attempting to find and correct the problem.

Title: RPTR STATED THE ACFT DROPPED OFF AT 4000 FT AND DID NOT GO INTO THE COAST SUSPEND LIST. TWO ADJACENT FACILITIES HAD GOOD TARGETS AND MODE C ON THE ACFT. THE ACFT RETAGGED AT 10200 FT.

Narrative: A MIL C130 DEPARTED POPE AAF. 10 MI NW OF POPE OUT OF 4000 FT THE ACFT DROPPED OFF THE RADAR SCREEN. IT DID NOT GO INTO THE COAST SUSPEND LIST. I CHKED THE ZDC AND RDU APCH AND BOTH FACILITIES HAD GOOD TARGETS AND GOOD MODE C. OUT OF 10200 FT THE ACFT RETAGGED. THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROB AT FAY. IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE HERE THINKS IT'S THAT BIG OF A PROB. IT IS RPTED ALMOST DAILY TO THE SUPVR BUT NEVER IS PUT INTO THE DAILY LOG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THE PROB IS NOT LIMITED TO A SPECIFIC AREA. HE SAID THAT HE WAS THE TRACK OWNER WHEN THE RPTED TARGET DROPPED AND THAT THERE WAS NO COASTING DISPLAYED, NOR DID THE DATA GO INTO THE COAST/SUSPEND LIST. HE INITIALLY FELT THAT THE TARGET DROP HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ACFT BUT WHEN OTHER FACILITIES WERE OBSERVING THE TARGET HE CHANGED HIS MIND AND NOW FEELS IT IS A RADAR PROB. RPTR INDICATED THAT FACILITY MAINT IS ATTEMPTING TO FIND AND CORRECT THE PROB.
