Narrative:
ATC requested a descent from FL330 to FL290. Could not comply because we were crossing over a line of thunderstorms and a descent would have put us into the tops of the storms. ATC advised us to fly present heading to avoid a conflict. Once clear of the storms, we advised ATC that we could descend and or turn to help them out. They advised us to remain on present heading and everything was fine. There appeared to be no conflict with other aircraft. ZME was the ATC facility.
