Narrative:
Taxied aircraft into gate at dtw airport and parked aircraft normally. After engine shutdown and completion of parking check, departed aircraft and was made aware of damage to left front entry door and fuselage aft of entry door by gate agent. Jetway had contacted aircraft during taxi just prior to stopping aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 333383: captain followed signal person's directions. Jetway was left in position of last aircraft which was smaller and caused the jetway to be lower. Signal person should pay closer attention to jetway position. Since pilots are always parking close to jetways and they end up ahead of jetway during parking, they have to rely on the signal person at all times.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE SIDE OF AN ACR ACFT SCRAPED AGAINST THE JETWAY, DAMAGING THE ACFT, WHILE THE FLC WAS PARKING. THE RPTRS WERE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS GIVEN BY A SIGNAL PERSON, AND DISCOVERED AFTER THE FACT THAT THE JETWAY HAD BEEN LEFT PARKED IN A POS FOR A PREVIOUS SMALLER ACFT.
Narrative: TAXIED ACFT INTO GATE AT DTW ARPT AND PARKED ACFT NORMALLY. AFTER ENG SHUTDOWN AND COMPLETION OF PARKING CHK, DEPARTED ACFT AND WAS MADE AWARE OF DAMAGE TO L FRONT ENTRY DOOR AND FUSELAGE AFT OF ENTRY DOOR BY GATE AGENT. JETWAY HAD CONTACTED ACFT DURING TAXI JUST PRIOR TO STOPPING ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 333383: CAPT FOLLOWED SIGNAL PERSON'S DIRECTIONS. JETWAY WAS LEFT IN POS OF LAST ACFT WHICH WAS SMALLER AND CAUSED THE JETWAY TO BE LOWER. SIGNAL PERSON SHOULD PAY CLOSER ATTN TO JETWAY POS. SINCE PLTS ARE ALWAYS PARKING CLOSE TO JETWAYS AND THEY END UP AHEAD OF JETWAY DURING PARKING, THEY HAVE TO RELY ON THE SIGNAL PERSON AT ALL TIMES.
