Narrative:
Upon returning to F46 I requested advisory from F46 unicom and received (winds southwest 10-16 KTS and runway 16 was the preferred runway) due to variable wind conditions I asked that runway 34 might not be better and I received no response, he may have been walked on by other radio traffic. Upon downwind entry I observed windsock southwest so I proceeded with landing on runway 16. Just at touchdown wind changed to northwest and gusting. As a result I overshot desired landing area and crosswind caused some control problems. Landing was hot and aircraft would not slow down, and it was not possible to go around or attempt another takeoff. In order to avoid major damage I skidded off right side of runway, applied enough power to clear a ditch, fence and came to rest in open field, however, fence posts scraped bottom of aircraft and damaged several skin panels and cracked the wheel pants. There was no propeller strike, no engine damage and no structural damage. On apr/tue/96, I contacted FSDO dallas and they referred me to NTSB. On apr/wed/96, I contacted ft worth NTSB and they stated that an accident did not occur and that I do not need to do anything else except to repair.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL LOST CTL OF THE ACFT DURING LNDG IN GUSTY XWIND CONDITIONS RESULTING IN CRASH LNDG OFF THE RWY INTO A FIELD. NO INJURIES. ACFT DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO FUSELAGE SKIN AND WHEEL PANT DAMAGE.
Narrative: UPON RETURNING TO F46 I REQUESTED ADVISORY FROM F46 UNICOM AND RECEIVED (WINDS SW 10-16 KTS AND RWY 16 WAS THE PREFERRED RWY) DUE TO VARIABLE WIND CONDITIONS I ASKED THAT RWY 34 MIGHT NOT BE BETTER AND I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE, HE MAY HAVE BEEN WALKED ON BY OTHER RADIO TFC. UPON DOWNWIND ENTRY I OBSERVED WINDSOCK SW SO I PROCEEDED WITH LNDG ON RWY 16. JUST AT TOUCHDOWN WIND CHANGED TO NW AND GUSTING. AS A RESULT I OVERSHOT DESIRED LNDG AREA AND XWIND CAUSED SOME CTL PROBS. LNDG WAS HOT AND ACFT WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, AND IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO GAR OR ATTEMPT ANOTHER TKOF. IN ORDER TO AVOID MAJOR DAMAGE I SKIDDED OFF R SIDE OF RWY, APPLIED ENOUGH PWR TO CLR A DITCH, FENCE AND CAME TO REST IN OPEN FIELD, HOWEVER, FENCE POSTS SCRAPED BOTTOM OF ACFT AND DAMAGED SEVERAL SKIN PANELS AND CRACKED THE WHEEL PANTS. THERE WAS NO PROP STRIKE, NO ENG DAMAGE AND NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.
