Narrative:
While acting as copilot on a cessna 550, mr X and myself taxied from FBO to runway 28L at pdx. We were #1 in line for takeoff. I was the PF, mr X was the PNF. Mr X was the PIC of the aircraft. We were finishing the takeoff checklist, when I heard cleared for takeoff. Mr X also heard and acknowledged this transmission. I did not hear the n-number the call was addressed to. While rolling to the runway I asked mr X to verify that we were cleared for takeoff. He said we were cleared to go. We continued the takeoff. After we were airborne the tower controller asked that we call the tower when we landed. Upon landing, mr X called the tower. They told him he did not have a takeoff clearance. The clearance he acknowledged was for a cessna 425 on runway 21. The transmission was blocked. They also stated that we did have proper separation from all other aircraft.
