Narrative:
During approach into atlanta, approach controller cleared us to descend from 10000 to 6000 ft. Passing through 9000 ft we got a TCASII traffic alert for an aircraft at our 1 to 1:30 O'clock position a couple mi out. We picked up aircraft, a light twin, visually. At 8600 ft a different voice on approach control said to level at 9000 ft. Almost immediately we got a TCASII RA to climb. I kicked off the autoplt and quickly climbed back to 9000 ft. The other aircraft passed directly under us at 8000 ft according to TCASII information. No further comments were made by approach control. Other aircraft's pilot apparently did not see us. TCASII sure helped out.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG STOPPED DSCNT AND CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA. VISUAL SIGHTING OF THE OTHER ACFT AND A CHANGE IN ALT ASSIGNMENT BY ATC.
Narrative: DURING APCH INTO ATLANTA, APCH CTLR CLRED US TO DSND FROM 10000 TO 6000 FT. PASSING THROUGH 9000 FT WE GOT A TCASII TFC ALERT FOR AN ACFT AT OUR 1 TO 1:30 O'CLOCK POS A COUPLE MI OUT. WE PICKED UP ACFT, A LIGHT TWIN, VISUALLY. AT 8600 FT A DIFFERENT VOICE ON APCH CTL SAID TO LEVEL AT 9000 FT. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WE GOT A TCASII RA TO CLB. I KICKED OFF THE AUTOPLT AND QUICKLY CLBED BACK TO 9000 FT. THE OTHER ACFT PASSED DIRECTLY UNDER US AT 8000 FT ACCORDING TO TCASII INFO. NO FURTHER COMMENTS WERE MADE BY APCH CTL. OTHER ACFT'S PLT APPARENTLY DID NOT SEE US. TCASII SURE HELPED OUT.
