Narrative:

Inbound to ane airport and making position reports on CTAF starting 10 mi out. Made standard pattern entries, 2 planes in pattern ahead of me. No conflicts. On short final was advised by an anonymous call that a temporary tower set up due to fly-in event. After tuning frequency 1 call made to establish contact. At this point I was almost over threshold and continued landing with no problems. Was cleared off runway, contacted ground, I stated my intentions to execute another takeoff, and away we went. We (I had another student pilot with me) had listened to local AWOS and ATIS and none mentioned any temporary tower operations in area. Learning on a short final there is a controller, is not best time to find out. Also, other aircraft were using the CTAF normally published frequency. We were both surprised that considering the number of calls by myself and other craft, the temporary tower crew could have (and should have) made announcement of frequency/control change. I was mad at myself for not having information on this change and copilot/myself were very curious where we could have easily and readily had access to the information. What of folks flying in from out of area? At no time were there any conflicts, or danger, but a lot of surprise on short final! Messed up a perfectly (almost -- good) landing!

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL ENTERED AND LANDED WITHOUT TWR CLRNC DUE TO NOT KNOWING THAT A TEMPORARY TWR HAD BEEN SET UP FOR A FLY-IN EVENT.

Narrative: INBOUND TO ANE ARPT AND MAKING POS RPTS ON CTAF STARTING 10 MI OUT. MADE STANDARD PATTERN ENTRIES, 2 PLANES IN PATTERN AHEAD OF ME. NO CONFLICTS. ON SHORT FINAL WAS ADVISED BY AN ANONYMOUS CALL THAT A TEMPORARY TWR SET UP DUE TO FLY-IN EVENT. AFTER TUNING FREQ 1 CALL MADE TO ESTABLISH CONTACT. AT THIS POINT I WAS ALMOST OVER THRESHOLD AND CONTINUED LNDG WITH NO PROBS. WAS CLRED OFF RWY, CONTACTED GND, I STATED MY INTENTIONS TO EXECUTE ANOTHER TKOF, AND AWAY WE WENT. WE (I HAD ANOTHER STUDENT PLT WITH ME) HAD LISTENED TO LCL AWOS AND ATIS AND NONE MENTIONED ANY TEMPORARY TWR OPS IN AREA. LEARNING ON A SHORT FINAL THERE IS A CTLR, IS NOT BEST TIME TO FIND OUT. ALSO, OTHER ACFT WERE USING THE CTAF NORMALLY PUBLISHED FREQ. WE WERE BOTH SURPRISED THAT CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF CALLS BY MYSELF AND OTHER CRAFT, THE TEMPORARY TWR CREW COULD HAVE (AND SHOULD HAVE) MADE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FREQ/CTL CHANGE. I WAS MAD AT MYSELF FOR NOT HAVING INFO ON THIS CHANGE AND COPLT/MYSELF WERE VERY CURIOUS WHERE WE COULD HAVE EASILY AND READILY HAD ACCESS TO THE INFO. WHAT OF FOLKS FLYING IN FROM OUT OF AREA? AT NO TIME WERE THERE ANY CONFLICTS, OR DANGER, BUT A LOT OF SURPRISE ON SHORT FINAL! MESSED UP A PERFECTLY (ALMOST -- GOOD) LNDG!
