Narrative:
After I entered class C airspace at roa, roanoke, va, I was told that my altitude encoding was not working. I continued to landing and then departed shortly afterwards. On departure control I was told again that my transponder was not putting out altitude information.

Title: SMA PLT IS TOLD HE HAS MODE C INOP ON APCH. DEPARTS WITH MODE C STILL INOP.
Narrative: AFTER I ENTERED CLASS C AIRSPACE AT ROA, ROANOKE, VA, I WAS TOLD THAT MY ALT ENCODING WAS NOT WORKING. I CONTINUED TO LNDG AND THEN DEPARTED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. ON DEP CTL I WAS TOLD AGAIN THAT MY XPONDER WAS NOT PUTTING OUT ALT INFO.
