Narrative:
Cleared by ZID, direct to muncie, and to cross 30 NM northeast of ind at 10000 ft. This was read back, set in altitude alerter and the clearance read back and altitude alerter set with 10000 ft was verbally confirmed by first officer (PF). After handoff to ind approach and level at 10000 ft, ind approach asked us if we were cleared to 10000 ft, we said yes -- by center. I called approach back to ask for confirmation that we were indeed cleared to 10000 ft correctly by center. Approach responded affirmatively that we were cleared to 10000 ft by center. This report is to report this occurrence in the event that the confirmation by approach control at ind that we descended correctly to 10000 ft was given just to avoid crew preoccupation or for the possibility that the confirmation was itself wrong.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR ACFT CLRED BY CTR TO 10000 FT, CONFIRMED BY READBACK AND FLC. WHEN RPTR WAS AT 10000 FT AND ON APCH CTL FREQ, THEY WERE ASKED IF CTR HAD CLRED THEM TO THAT ALT. APPARENT CTR TO APCH CTLR COORD PROB.
Narrative: CLRED BY ZID, DIRECT TO MUNCIE, AND TO CROSS 30 NM NE OF IND AT 10000 FT. THIS WAS READ BACK, SET IN ALT ALERTER AND THE CLRNC READ BACK AND ALT ALERTER SET WITH 10000 FT WAS VERBALLY CONFIRMED BY FO (PF). AFTER HDOF TO IND APCH AND LEVEL AT 10000 FT, IND APCH ASKED US IF WE WERE CLRED TO 10000 FT, WE SAID YES -- BY CTR. I CALLED APCH BACK TO ASK FOR CONFIRMATION THAT WE WERE INDEED CLRED TO 10000 FT CORRECTLY BY CTR. APCH RESPONDED AFFIRMATIVELY THAT WE WERE CLRED TO 10000 FT BY CTR. THIS RPT IS TO RPT THIS OCCURRENCE IN THE EVENT THAT THE CONFIRMATION BY APCH CTL AT IND THAT WE DSNDED CORRECTLY TO 10000 FT WAS GIVEN JUST TO AVOID CREW PREOCCUPATION OR FOR THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE CONFIRMATION WAS ITSELF WRONG.
