Narrative:
After uneventful flight and normal landing, taxied to gate at phl international. Shortly after turning towards gate from taxiway, saw and followed directions of marshaller to final gate position. Nothing unusual was noticed and engines were shut down and all checklists and procedures were complied with. This was last leg of a 4 day trip. Completed logbook, stowed personal equipment, all passenger deplaned, flight attendants departed. Walked down jetway stairs and saw maintenance man on left side of aircraft whom I presumed was doing his checks and proceeded to depart the airport. Approximately 1 1/2 hours later and shortly after arriving at home, received phone call and was told that aircraft had hit a belt loader on taxi in! I subsequently returned to the airport and saw damage to just the side of the right engine. Highly questionable how this damage occurred on taxi in, and nothing noticed or felt by any other passenger or crew.

Title: ACFT WAS PARKED AND FLC DEPARTED. LATER FLC RECEIVED CALL THAT ACFT HAD BEEN DAMAGED BY HITTING BELT LOADER. RPTR CAPT TAXIED UNDER MARSHALLER GUIDANCE AT NIGHT. IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THE BELT LOADER DRIVER HIT THE ACFT.

I SUBSEQUENTLY RETURNED TO THE ARPT AND SAW DAMAGE TO JUST THE SIDE OF THE R ENG. HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE HOW THIS DAMAGE OCCURRED ON TAXI IN, AND NOTHING NOTICED OR FELT BY ANY OTHER PAX OR CREW.
