Narrative:
We were issued a rerte and given an altitude change. We checked our charts and set up the new course. While doing this we forgot to begin our descent. The controller questioned us about whether or not we had begun our descent a few mins later. We had not and he gave us a turn to begin descent. I feel this occurrence was due to coupling a rerte with an altitude change. Separate clrncs would be less likely to be neglected.
