Narrative:
Approaching hpn, ny approach control switched our frequency to westchester tower. Call to tower was made at the OM for runway 34, tower acknowledged with 'cleared to land.' the remainder of the visual approach was made and we made a routing landing on runway 34. As we started to leave the runway the controller issued a clearance to make a 180 degree turn and back taxi to the center taxiway where we acknowledged that clearance. She said that was the first call she had heard from us . After clearing at the center taxiway another controller came on the frequency to clear us for another 180 degree turn back down the runway because the taxiway to the hangar was closed. It appeared as though the first controller may have been a trainee and was somewhat confused about where we were going. The first officer and I both believe that we had called the tower and a landing clearance had been given. No further comments were made by the controllers. It appears that with controller trainees, that better supervision would avoid this confusion.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AFTER FLC LANDED, TWR CTLR SAID THAT THEY AHD NOT RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC. BOTH RPTR FLC THOUGHT THEY HAD CLRNC AND ACKNOWLEDGED. THERE WAS APPARENT CTLR TRAINING BEING CONDUCTED AT THE ARPT.
Narrative: APCHING HPN, NY APCH CTL SWITCHED OUR FREQ TO WESTCHESTER TWR. CALL TO TWR WAS MADE AT THE OM FOR RWY 34, TWR ACKNOWLEDGED WITH 'CLRED TO LAND.' THE REMAINDER OF THE VISUAL APCH WAS MADE AND WE MADE A ROUTING LNDG ON RWY 34. AS WE STARTED TO LEAVE THE RWY THE CTLR ISSUED A CLRNC TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN AND BACK TAXI TO THE CTR TXWY WHERE WE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT CLRNC. SHE SAID THAT WAS THE FIRST CALL SHE HAD HEARD FROM US . AFTER CLRING AT THE CTR TXWY ANOTHER CTLR CAME ON THE FREQ TO CLR US FOR ANOTHER 180 DEG TURN BACK DOWN THE RWY BECAUSE THE TXWY TO THE HANGAR WAS CLOSED. IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE FIRST CTLR MAY HAVE BEEN A TRAINEE AND WAS SOMEWHAT CONFUSED ABOUT WHERE WE WERE GOING. THE FO AND I BOTH BELIEVE THAT WE HAD CALLED THE TWR AND A LNDG CLRNC HAD BEEN GIVEN. NO FURTHER COMMENTS WERE MADE BY THE CTLRS. IT APPEARS THAT WITH CTLR TRAINEES, THAT BETTER SUPERVISION WOULD AVOID THIS CONFUSION.
