Air Traffic Incident | Operational Error |
Narrative:
Level at FL310, issued climb to FL350. Had just started climb when TCASII target showed converging at FL330. PNF visually confirmed traffic. We leveled at FL312. After traffic passed, we continued climb to FL350. ATC made partial communication with call sign, but no instruction as targets passed. Good catch by PNF. TCASII has been an excellent addition to the cockpit. Supplemental information from acn 392042: as copilot started climb, I saw an aircraft on TCASII and visually at 11 O'clock, 2000 ft above, coming toward us. As it passed overhead and a little to our left, I stated that we 'saw him.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR FLC RECEIVED AND ACKNOWLEDGED CLB CLRNC FROM FL310 TO FL350. AS CLB BEGAN, PNF OBSERVED OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC AT FL330 ON TCASII, AND STOPPED CLB. PNF RPTED TFC IN SIGHT TO ATC. WHEN TFC WAS CLR, CTLR AGAIN CLRED ACFT TO FL350.
