Narrative:
Flight attendant called the cockpit and stated that there had been a fire in the galley but it was put out with a halon extinguisher. Our relief pilot had just had his break so the captain asked him to go investigate while he accomplished the galley fire checklist and shut off the utility busses. The relief pilot came back and said he found the problem, in that there was some paper and foil in the exhaust duct of that galley. We brought up the chief purser and discussed with her that since we idented the problem and there wasn't anything else wrong we would continue. We then placed inoperative stickers on the galley and briefed the other flight attendants not to use the galley. The remainder of the flight was uneventful. Supplemental information from acn 341519: with pliers and flashlight I sourced the smoke to the exhaust duct where burnt, melted plastic was still smoldering. Some foil was also present.
