Narrative:

With alarming regularity current WX observations and updated terminal forecasts are not available to FSS/AFSS specialists for up to an hour after issuance. I called salt lake city, ut, ARTCC and they were using 2 hour old surface WX reports for altimeter settings. This constitutes an aviation safety hazard, especially during thunderstorm season when altimeter settings can change rapidly.

Title: FSS SPECIALIST SAYS THAT WX INFO OVER AN HR OLD BEFORE UPDATES ARE RECEIVED BY FACILITIES THAT NEED IT. THE ARTCC WAS USING 2 HR OLD WX RPTS TO ISSUE TO ACFT WITH RAPIDLY CHANGING ALTIMETER INFO.
