Narrative:
During runway change from runway 17R to runway 35L we were second aircraft to back-taxi down runway 17R to do a left turn on taxiway el and continue south on taxiway M to hold short of runway 35L. I focused my attention on interval with the aircraft ahead -- navigating on the proper taxiway and maintaining centerline. As we approached runway 35L the first officer called 'ILS hold short.' it was too late for a smooth stop short of the line. We immediately advised the tower that we were over the line. I don't know if IFR approachs were in progress at the time. The ILS hold line is depicted on the airport diagram that I had on my clipboard directly in front of me. Although my full attention was focused on taxiing the aircraft I still managed to miss the line which was directly in front of me. Contributing factors may have been overconcentration on taxiing and the aircraft ahead, heavy rain obscuring the line, and the unexpected location of the line. If present, I did not see the red-white signs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR ACFT CROSSED ILS HOLD SHORT LINE WHEN TAXIING TO RWY. NO APPARENT CONFLICT.
Narrative: DURING RWY CHANGE FROM RWY 17R TO RWY 35L WE WERE SECOND ACFT TO BACK-TAXI DOWN RWY 17R TO DO A L TURN ON TXWY EL AND CONTINUE S ON TXWY M TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35L. I FOCUSED MY ATTN ON INTERVAL WITH THE ACFT AHEAD -- NAVING ON THE PROPER TXWY AND MAINTAINING CTRLINE. AS WE APCHED RWY 35L THE FO CALLED 'ILS HOLD SHORT.' IT WAS TOO LATE FOR A SMOOTH STOP SHORT OF THE LINE. WE IMMEDIATELY ADVISED THE TWR THAT WE WERE OVER THE LINE. I DON'T KNOW IF IFR APCHS WERE IN PROGRESS AT THE TIME. THE ILS HOLD LINE IS DEPICTED ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM THAT I HAD ON MY CLIPBOARD DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. ALTHOUGH MY FULL ATTN WAS FOCUSED ON TAXIING THE ACFT I STILL MANAGED TO MISS THE LINE WHICH WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS MAY HAVE BEEN OVERCONCENTRATION ON TAXIING AND THE ACFT AHEAD, HVY RAIN OBSCURING THE LINE, AND THE UNEXPECTED LOCATION OF THE LINE. IF PRESENT, I DID NOT SEE THE RED-WHITE SIGNS.
