Narrative:
Taxiing out for departure at myr we were issued the clearance, cleared for takeoff runway 35, maintain runway heading. I checked the final as we turned onto taxiway north. I called for the before takeoff check, which was completed to the line. I made one last visual check of the runway 35 final and abruptly stopped our aircraft just short of the runway 35 hold line. I had already called for completion of the takeoff check, which was underway. A very white kingair appeared on a very short final, executing a steep base to final turn. We called the tower requesting confirmation that we were cleared for takeoff. After a long pause the controller issued the amended clearance, cancel takeoff clearance and hold short of runway 35. He explained that the kingair was to have advised him when they were on a 2 mi right base. This was a call he evidently never received.
