Narrative:
Once again, GGG incurred a total radar loss (primary and secondary) during a thunderstorm. I was transmitting possible precipitation returns and current field conditions to a flight holding 40 mi northwest of GGG. I informed him that it appeared we had radar failure and that I would be unable to advise him of any other possible cell locations. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter was unaware of what caused the radar failure. Reporter alleged that facility management is tight-lipped about passing out information about the radar failures due to reports on the radar failures/problems.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE RADAR FAILED DURING A TSTM. RPTR WAS UNABLE TO ADVISE ACR X OF WX CELLS.
Narrative: ONCE AGAIN, GGG INCURRED A TOTAL RADAR LOSS (PRIMARY AND SECONDARY) DURING A TSTM. I WAS XMITTING POSSIBLE PRECIP RETURNS AND CURRENT FIELD CONDITIONS TO A FLT HOLDING 40 MI NW OF GGG. I INFORMED HIM THAT IT APPEARED WE HAD RADAR FAILURE AND THAT I WOULD BE UNABLE TO ADVISE HIM OF ANY OTHER POSSIBLE CELL LOCATIONS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT CAUSED THE RADAR FAILURE. RPTR ALLEGED THAT FACILITY MGMNT IS TIGHT-LIPPED ABOUT PASSING OUT INFO ABOUT THE RADAR FAILURES DUE TO RPTS ON THE RADAR FAILURES/PROBS.
