Narrative:
After walkaround, found performance management system, ZFW programmed, and fuel programmed into ACARS. Assumed captain had also got pre departure clearance. Before takeoff check, neither of us tried to compare squawk to pre departure clearance paper. Transponder still had code from previous flight. After takeoff departure said squawk 1323. Thought it was a change, not unusual. Later saw destination flashing on ACARS. Checked and found previous flight number still loaded. I was appalled to realize we didn't have pre departure clearance. Had even told metering we did. I have written/confirm transponder on my before start check and hi-lighted it in red. Will train myself to load 1200, a number not used for IFR, into transponder after landing after landing to protect others. New procedures at ord don't require readback of transponder code. I recommend they do.
