Narrative:
On sep/xx/969, I was on a VFR flight from vay to ilg. At approximately 8 DME from ilg, philadelphia approach terminated my flight following. I squawked 1200 and contacted wilmington tower. I was tracking the 110 degree radial into ilg. I was cleared for 'straight in runway 27, report 3 mi final.' at 3.8 DME, I was at approximately 1800 ft MSL, a cessna appeared just beneath my left wing. I contacted the tower to report the near miss and to advise that I was making a '360' to get out of the cessna's way. Just after my contact, the cessna reported that he thought a 'bonanza' had come out of nowhere just above him. I again keyed the microphone and reported to the tower that I was a cherokee archer and that I was turning a '360.' the cessna then reported that he had just put on his landing light. The tower indicated that he didn't have either one of us in sight.

Title: NMAC BTWN A PIPER ARCHER, PA28, AND A CESSNA SEL DURING A VISUAL APCH ON ABOUT A 4 MI FINAL.
Narrative: ON SEP/XX/969, I WAS ON A VFR FLT FROM VAY TO ILG. AT APPROX 8 DME FROM ILG, PHILADELPHIA APCH TERMINATED MY FLT FOLLOWING. I SQUAWKED 1200 AND CONTACTED WILMINGTON TWR. I WAS TRACKING THE 110 DEG RADIAL INTO ILG. I WAS CLRED FOR 'STRAIGHT IN RWY 27, RPT 3 MI FINAL.' AT 3.8 DME, I WAS AT APPROX 1800 FT MSL, A CESSNA APPEARED JUST BENEATH MY L WING. I CONTACTED THE TWR TO RPT THE NEAR MISS AND TO ADVISE THAT I WAS MAKING A '360' TO GET OUT OF THE CESSNA'S WAY. JUST AFTER MY CONTACT, THE CESSNA RPTED THAT HE THOUGHT A 'BONANZA' HAD COME OUT OF NOWHERE JUST ABOVE HIM. I AGAIN KEYED THE MIKE AND RPTED TO THE TWR THAT I WAS A CHEROKEE ARCHER AND THAT I WAS TURNING A '360.' THE CESSNA THEN RPTED THAT HE HAD JUST PUT ON HIS LNDG LIGHT. THE TWR INDICATED THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE EITHER ONE OF US IN SIGHT.
