Narrative:
Failed to turn to the 330 degree heading on departure from clt. Departure controller had to tell us to make the turn. Failure to properly review the hornet 8 SID. Possibly caused by break of established cockpit routine. This aircraft was MEL'ed to operate with the right generator inoperative. At the point where we would normally review the departure we were preoccupied with performing an AC bus x-tie check. We subsequently never fully reviewed the SID and departed on runway heading instead of making the left turn to 330 degrees. Supplemental information from acn 346902: when switched from tower to departure control, departure control questioned our heading. When we stated it (360 degrees) he told us to turn to 330 degrees. This heading is on the SID for noise abatement procedure. I had missed turning as instructed in the SID, which was 330 degrees when feasible, and instead climbed to 3000 ft on 360 degrees. When I read back the takeoff clearance on the ground I do not remember if I made reference to a heading when I repeated 'cleared for takeoff runway 36.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: HDG TRACK DEV ON NOISE ABATEMENT PROC. FLC FAILED TO REVIEW SID PROC.
Narrative: FAILED TO TURN TO THE 330 DEG HDG ON DEP FROM CLT. DEP CTLR HAD TO TELL US TO MAKE THE TURN. FAILURE TO PROPERLY REVIEW THE HORNET 8 SID. POSSIBLY CAUSED BY BREAK OF ESTABLISHED COCKPIT ROUTINE. THIS ACFT WAS MEL'ED TO OPERATE WITH THE R GENERATOR INOP. AT THE POINT WHERE WE WOULD NORMALLY REVIEW THE DEP WE WERE PREOCCUPIED WITH PERFORMING AN AC BUS X-TIE CHK. WE SUBSEQUENTLY NEVER FULLY REVIEWED THE SID AND DEPARTED ON RWY HDG INSTEAD OF MAKING THE L TURN TO 330 DEGS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 346902: WHEN SWITCHED FROM TWR TO DEP CTL, DEP CTL QUESTIONED OUR HDG. WHEN WE STATED IT (360 DEGS) HE TOLD US TO TURN TO 330 DEGS. THIS HDG IS ON THE SID FOR NOISE ABATEMENT PROC. I HAD MISSED TURNING AS INSTRUCTED IN THE SID, WHICH WAS 330 DEGS WHEN FEASIBLE, AND INSTEAD CLBED TO 3000 FT ON 360 DEGS. WHEN I READ BACK THE TKOF CLRNC ON THE GND I DO NOT REMEMBER IF I MADE REF TO A HDG WHEN I REPEATED 'CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 36.'
