Narrative:

On scheduled flight sep/mon/96, from burbank to las vegas we were given a descent to 12000 ft from FL270. We were flying the orejjo 3 arrival into vegas but due to the boulder VOR being OTS ZLA assigned us a heading of 035 degrees after 'danby' intersection. Los angeles wanted us to cross 40 DME out of vegas VOR at 12000 ft. We acknowledged but wrongly set 11000 ft on the FMS. After turning off the arrival we encountered moderate turbulence and our attention shifted toward passenger safety. The PA messages were given and the aircraft continued descent to the 'set' altitude of 11000 ft. ZLA queried our altitude and we read back 11000 ft. They said we had been assigned 12000 ft to which we replied if we should climb to 12000 ft. ZLA said that 11000 ft was no problem for them or for approach control. Continued at 11000 ft to an uneventful landing in vegas.

Narrative: ON SCHEDULED FLT SEP/MON/96, FROM BURBANK TO LAS VEGAS WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT TO 12000 FT FROM FL270. WE WERE FLYING THE OREJJO 3 ARR INTO VEGAS BUT DUE TO THE BOULDER VOR BEING OTS ZLA ASSIGNED US A HDG OF 035 DEGS AFTER 'DANBY' INTXN. LOS ANGELES WANTED US TO CROSS 40 DME OUT OF VEGAS VOR AT 12000 FT. WE ACKNOWLEDGED BUT WRONGLY SET 11000 FT ON THE FMS. AFTER TURNING OFF THE ARR WE ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURB AND OUR ATTN SHIFTED TOWARD PAX SAFETY. THE PA MESSAGES WERE GIVEN AND THE ACFT CONTINUED DSCNT TO THE 'SET' ALT OF 11000 FT. ZLA QUERIED OUR ALT AND WE READ BACK 11000 FT. THEY SAID WE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED 12000 FT TO WHICH WE REPLIED IF WE SHOULD CLB TO 12000 FT. ZLA SAID THAT 11000 FT WAS NO PROB FOR THEM OR FOR APCH CTL. CONTINUED AT 11000 FT TO AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG IN VEGAS.
