Narrative:
Lax changed clearance to read J128 out of tbc. Both pilots entered J236 (229 degree radial) and started tracking outbound. Lax asked our clearance, then advised we were off course. Lax then cleared us direct pgs with no further problems.

Narrative: LAX CHANGED CLRNC TO READ J128 OUT OF TBC. BOTH PLTS ENTERED J236 (229 DEG RADIAL) AND STARTED TRACKING OUTBOUND. LAX ASKED OUR CLRNC, THEN ADVISED WE WERE OFF COURSE. LAX THEN CLRED US DIRECT PGS WITH NO FURTHER PROBS.
