Narrative:
The original clearance by clearance delivery (cos) was radar vectors to intercept the cos 107 degree radial to the 45 DME fix and then direct hgo. Our filed plan was cos-hgo. When we got the clearance by departure control to intercept the cos 107 degree to on course, we assumed it was to intercept our filed course, which we did. The controller asked us what we were doing, now being well north of where he expected us, and in the confusion of trying to find out what was the problem with our course, I overshot our altitude by 500 ft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR LGT CLRED VECTOR TO 107 DEG RADIAL COS TO 45 DME THEN DIRECT HGO. FILED COS DIRECT HGO. ON TKOF CLBING TO 11000 FT TURNED DIRECT HGO. CTLR QUERIED WHERE THEY WERE GOING AND FLC DISTRACTED ENOUGH TO OVERSHOOT ALT 500 FT.
Narrative: THE ORIGINAL CLRNC BY CLRNC DELIVERY (COS) WAS RADAR VECTORS TO INTERCEPT THE COS 107 DEG RADIAL TO THE 45 DME FIX AND THEN DIRECT HGO. OUR FILED PLAN WAS COS-HGO. WHEN WE GOT THE CLRNC BY DEP CTL TO INTERCEPT THE COS 107 DEG TO ON COURSE, WE ASSUMED IT WAS TO INTERCEPT OUR FILED COURSE, WHICH WE DID. THE CTLR ASKED US WHAT WE WERE DOING, NOW BEING WELL N OF WHERE HE EXPECTED US, AND IN THE CONFUSION OF TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS THE PROB WITH OUR COURSE, I OVERSHOT OUR ALT BY 500 FT.
