Narrative:
We were on radar vectors to intercept localizer to runway 6 at cks airport taipei. I was PNF and had my approach chart in book on top of flight bag. After paging through several times, I located ILS runway 5L, turned page over and saw what I wanted to see -- runway 6. Unfortunately it was runway 5L CAT ii. Tuned wrong ILS frequency in, set inbound course -- same for runway 5L and runway 6. Captain set his frequency to mine and the controller took us through localizer. She gave a reintercept of heading 030 degrees which seemed good to us. We flew back and intercepted nicely! Broke out at 2000 ft and saw we were lined up for wrong runway. At same time, tower asked if we wanted, or needed to land runway 5L. We were able to sidestep to runway 6 in normal approach/landing confign. During approach phase, we had been monitoring TCASII and were only aircraft in area for approach. Controller seemed to be in training, and the late turn to intercept all seemed to be in place. Moral of the story is always put your chart in front of you and verify proper chart selected during approach briefing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WRONG ILS FREQ SELECTED SINCE WRONG CHART USED. ACR LGT ENDS UP WITH WRONG RWY APCH IN FOREIGN AIRSPACE. UPON VISUAL, SIDESTEPS TO INTENDED RWY.
Narrative: WE WERE ON RADAR VECTORS TO INTERCEPT LOC TO RWY 6 AT CKS ARPT TAIPEI. I WAS PNF AND HAD MY APCH CHART IN BOOK ON TOP OF FLT BAG. AFTER PAGING THROUGH SEVERAL TIMES, I LOCATED ILS RWY 5L, TURNED PAGE OVER AND SAW WHAT I WANTED TO SEE -- RWY 6. UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS RWY 5L CAT II. TUNED WRONG ILS FREQ IN, SET INBOUND COURSE -- SAME FOR RWY 5L AND RWY 6. CAPT SET HIS FREQ TO MINE AND THE CTLR TOOK US THROUGH LOC. SHE GAVE A REINTERCEPT OF HDG 030 DEGS WHICH SEEMED GOOD TO US. WE FLEW BACK AND INTERCEPTED NICELY! BROKE OUT AT 2000 FT AND SAW WE WERE LINED UP FOR WRONG RWY. AT SAME TIME, TWR ASKED IF WE WANTED, OR NEEDED TO LAND RWY 5L. WE WERE ABLE TO SIDESTEP TO RWY 6 IN NORMAL APCH/LNDG CONFIGN. DURING APCH PHASE, WE HAD BEEN MONITORING TCASII AND WERE ONLY ACFT IN AREA FOR APCH. CTLR SEEMED TO BE IN TRAINING, AND THE LATE TURN TO INTERCEPT ALL SEEMED TO BE IN PLACE. MORAL OF THE STORY IS ALWAYS PUT YOUR CHART IN FRONT OF YOU AND VERIFY PROPER CHART SELECTED DURING APCH BRIEFING.
