Narrative:
On an assigned heading for VORTAC further down the route, received call to turn 20 degrees right, or what we both thought was a turn 20 degrees right. The 20 degree right turn was accomplished. About 1 min later, the controller (ZME 133.85) said, 'you guys did turn left, didn't you?' we then initiated a left turn to a newly directed heading. Then the controller directed us to make it a 'tight turn.' by this time we were on the newly assigned heading. No conflicts were noted by the controller and he did not seem to be upset about it. The bottom line is that I would have sworn that he gave us a 20 degree right turn. When I made the turn I stated 'right turn' and the captain concurred that was the clearance given. Then the controller said he wanted us turning left. I sure thought I heard right turn.

Title: ACR MLG ON ASSIGNED HDG WHEN ISSUED A 20 DEG TURN TO THE R. 1 MIN LATER CTLR QUESTIONED IF THEY HAD MADE THE TURN TO THE L. INITIATED TURN TO THE L AND THE CTLR REQUESTED THE TURN BE TIGHTENED. NO FURTHER PROB AND THE CTLR DID NOT SEEM UPSET.
Narrative: ON AN ASSIGNED HDG FOR VORTAC FURTHER DOWN THE RTE, RECEIVED CALL TO TURN 20 DEGS R, OR WHAT WE BOTH THOUGHT WAS A TURN 20 DEGS R. THE 20 DEG R TURN WAS ACCOMPLISHED. ABOUT 1 MIN LATER, THE CTLR (ZME 133.85) SAID, 'YOU GUYS DID TURN L, DIDN'T YOU?' WE THEN INITIATED A L TURN TO A NEWLY DIRECTED HDG. THEN THE CTLR DIRECTED US TO MAKE IT A 'TIGHT TURN.' BY THIS TIME WE WERE ON THE NEWLY ASSIGNED HDG. NO CONFLICTS WERE NOTED BY THE CTLR AND HE DID NOT SEEM TO BE UPSET ABOUT IT. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I WOULD HAVE SWORN THAT HE GAVE US A 20 DEG R TURN. WHEN I MADE THE TURN I STATED 'R TURN' AND THE CAPT CONCURRED THAT WAS THE CLRNC GIVEN. THEN THE CTLR SAID HE WANTED US TURNING L. I SURE THOUGHT I HEARD R TURN.
