Narrative:
When we first contacted dtw approach we were told 'approach will be runway 21R.' ATIS said approachs in use were both runways 21L&right. Dtw approach vectored us and eventually said 'heading 180 degrees to intercept, cleared approach runway 21L.' at this point, we were just intercepting runway 21R and we continued to do so while we questioned this clearance rather than overshoot. Almost immediately, approach told us we were intercepting the wrong localizer and gave us a vector and told us runway 21R was closed. At no time since we first contacted dtw approach and were given runway 21R, did anyone tell us it had been changed to runway 21L or that runway 21R had been closed.

Title: A B757 ACR FLC STARTED AN APCH TO RWY 21R WHEN THEY WERE CLRED TO RWY 21L. THE ATIS DID STATE THAT APCHS TO BOTH RWY 21L&R WERE IN USE EVEN THOUGH THE APCH CTLR LATER SAID THAT RWY 21R WAS CLOSED.
Narrative: WHEN WE FIRST CONTACTED DTW APCH WE WERE TOLD 'APCH WILL BE RWY 21R.' ATIS SAID APCHS IN USE WERE BOTH RWYS 21L&R. DTW APCH VECTORED US AND EVENTUALLY SAID 'HDG 180 DEGS TO INTERCEPT, CLRED APCH RWY 21L.' AT THIS POINT, WE WERE JUST INTERCEPTING RWY 21R AND WE CONTINUED TO DO SO WHILE WE QUESTIONED THIS CLRNC RATHER THAN OVERSHOOT. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, APCH TOLD US WE WERE INTERCEPTING THE WRONG LOC AND GAVE US A VECTOR AND TOLD US RWY 21R WAS CLOSED. AT NO TIME SINCE WE FIRST CONTACTED DTW APCH AND WERE GIVEN RWY 21R, DID ANYONE TELL US IT HAD BEEN CHANGED TO RWY 21L OR THAT RWY 21R HAD BEEN CLOSED.
