Narrative:
On ILS runway 9R mia just inside gritt descending out of 3000 ft and following 2 B727's, the closest 4 1/2 to 5 mi ahead, we encountered wake turbulence on the GS, leveled out to approximately 1 1/2 dots above GS and less than 45 seconds later we were again hit by wake turbulence, this time encountering immediate rolls of 30 degrees left and right requiring evasive control action and application of cruise power. Since it was VFR and a long runway, continued approach at or above 2 dots high on GS. Notified tower of conflict. We can only assume preceding aircraft were high on the approach. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter participated in wake turbulence callback program. See separate report for details.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF DHC8-100 ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB WHILE ON APCH TO MIA. FLT WAS 10 MI FROM RWY AND FOLLOWING 2 B727'S. AFTER HITTING THE SECOND WAKE, FLC ADJUSTED GS TO REMAIN 2 1/2 DOTS ABOVE. RPTR PARTICIPATED IN THE WAKE TURB CALLBACK PROB.
Narrative: ON ILS RWY 9R MIA JUST INSIDE GRITT DSNDING OUT OF 3000 FT AND FOLLOWING 2 B727'S, THE CLOSEST 4 1/2 TO 5 MI AHEAD, WE ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB ON THE GS, LEVELED OUT TO APPROX 1 1/2 DOTS ABOVE GS AND LESS THAN 45 SECONDS LATER WE WERE AGAIN HIT BY WAKE TURB, THIS TIME ENCOUNTERING IMMEDIATE ROLLS OF 30 DEGS L AND R REQUIRING EVASIVE CTL ACTION AND APPLICATION OF CRUISE PWR. SINCE IT WAS VFR AND A LONG RWY, CONTINUED APCH AT OR ABOVE 2 DOTS HIGH ON GS. NOTIFIED TWR OF CONFLICT. WE CAN ONLY ASSUME PRECEDING ACFT WERE HIGH ON THE APCH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR PARTICIPATED IN WAKE TURB CALLBACK PROGRAM. SEE SEPARATE RPT FOR DETAILS.
