Narrative:

Upon pushback I had set the brakes and was starting engines. After engine start and after start checklist, I looked up for the marshaller to marshal me for taxi. There was no one there, I assumed they had gone inside. I began to taxi when almost immediately I realized the ground crew was still hooked to the interphone as per the new ICAO procedures. I stopped immediately and the ground crew buttoned up the aircraft and we were on our way. After 18 yrs of doing something one way -- when we change procedures it takes a while to sink in. Old habits die hard. In retrospect, when I looked up and didn't see what I was accustomed to see, my mind did not process correctly. For 18 yrs I have been looking for a person in front of my aircraft -- not a voice on the headphones. We need to be careful -- it's going to take a little while to get used to ICAO procedures.

Title: MLG ACFT. RPTR CAPT, ADAPTING TO NEW ICAO PUSHBACK PROCS, COMMENCED TAXIING WHEN NOT SEEING MARSHALLER AFTER ENG START. REALIZED QUICKLY AND STOPPED BECAUSE GND CREW WERE UNDER ACFT DISCONNECTING HEADSET AND TOW BAR.

Narrative: UPON PUSHBACK I HAD SET THE BRAKES AND WAS STARTING ENGS. AFTER ENG START AND AFTER START CHKLIST, I LOOKED UP FOR THE MARSHALLER TO MARSHAL ME FOR TAXI. THERE WAS NO ONE THERE, I ASSUMED THEY HAD GONE INSIDE. I BEGAN TO TAXI WHEN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY I REALIZED THE GND CREW WAS STILL HOOKED TO THE INTERPHONE AS PER THE NEW ICAO PROCS. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND THE GND CREW BUTTONED UP THE ACFT AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY. AFTER 18 YRS OF DOING SOMETHING ONE WAY -- WHEN WE CHANGE PROCS IT TAKES A WHILE TO SINK IN. OLD HABITS DIE HARD. IN RETROSPECT, WHEN I LOOKED UP AND DIDN'T SEE WHAT I WAS ACCUSTOMED TO SEE, MY MIND DID NOT PROCESS CORRECTLY. FOR 18 YRS I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A PERSON IN FRONT OF MY ACFT -- NOT A VOICE ON THE HEADPHONES. WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL -- IT'S GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE WHILE TO GET USED TO ICAO PROCS.
