Narrative:
A bird strike at FL310 cracked the right windshield seriously. As ATC could not immediately clear us to a low altitude we declared an emergency and then began an emergency descent to 17000 ft MSL. Cabin pressure was reduced to a 10000 ft MSL altitude and we returned to den for an uneventful landing. Complete windshield replacement was required as the outer pane was shattered.
