Narrative:

Air interruption return to dfw after takeoff. While intercepting the dallas one departure out of dfw I was leveling the aircraft at FL190. The amber leading edge flap light illuminated. I slowed the aircraft to below 240 KTS and gave control to the first officer. The flight engineer and I then reviewed the checklist for leading edge flap/slat abnormalities. Since this occurred approximately 15 mins after takeoff I felt the after retraction checklist did not apply. I elected to declare an emergency and return to dfw. Approach and landing were uneventful. Dfw crash fire rescue equipment followed us to the gate. First officer and flight engineer both did a great job in assisting me with the problem.
