Narrative:
Apparently, controller called us several times after she had assumed that we had acknowledged an altitude change. (Which we never did hear or acknowledge.) when she called, she turned both us and another aircraft 90 degrees from our courses in opposite directions. Apparently we had come within 10 NM of one another at the same altitude.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR B737 APPARENTLY MISSED SEVERAL CALLS BY THE ARTCC CTLR FOR AN ALT CHANGE. WHEN THE CTLR FINALLY CONTACTED THE ACR SHE HAD TO TURN THE ACR AND ANOTHER ACFT TO MAINTAIN SEPARATION.
