Narrative:
Inbound to cqy we were given a heading to join the cve 125 degree radial. The next controller cleared us to cross flipp at 9000 ft. Since we were not cleared on the arrival I informed ATC and he reclred us on the arrival and to cross flipp at 9000 ft. By the time we looked up flipp, we were too high to make it. The next controller cleared us to 4000 ft, a mi from flipp.
