Narrative:
During cruise, the right generator failed, causing a xtie lockout. ATC lost radar contact with us for about 5 mins. Radio communications were normal. An emergency was declared. We were cleared direct clt. Electrical power was restored and we continued to receive priority handling. The APU was used to replace the failed generator.

Title: AN MD80 AT CRUISE DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO THE R GENERATOR FAILURE.
Narrative: DURING CRUISE, THE R GENERATOR FAILED, CAUSING A XTIE LOCKOUT. ATC LOST RADAR CONTACT WITH US FOR ABOUT 5 MINS. RADIO COMS WERE NORMAL. AN EMER WAS DECLARED. WE WERE CLRED DIRECT CLT. ELECTRICAL PWR WAS RESTORED AND WE CONTINUED TO RECEIVE PRIORITY HANDLING. THE APU WAS USED TO REPLACE THE FAILED GENERATOR.
