Narrative:
Was descending into atl from the south. I understood cleared to cross 40 DME at 11000 ft. I read back cleared to cross 40 DME south atl at and maintain 11000 ft. When out of 12700 ft, the controller called and said that we were cleared to cross 40 DME south of atl at 15000 ft. I informed the controller that I read back, cross 40 DME south at 11000 ft, and did they want me to climb to 15000 ft or go on to 11000 ft. The controller said maintain 11000 ft. The controller should listen better to all readbacks and make corrections if readback is not correct.

Title: A B727-200 DSNDING INTO ATL HEARS CLRNC TO CROSS AT 11000 FT, HOWEVER, AT 12700 FT ARTCC CALLS AND STATES THE XING ALT WAS 15000 FT. ARTCC CHANGES CLRNC AND HAS FLC CONTINUE DSCNT TO 11000 FT.
Narrative: WAS DSNDING INTO ATL FROM THE S. I UNDERSTOOD CLRED TO CROSS 40 DME AT 11000 FT. I READ BACK CLRED TO CROSS 40 DME S ATL AT AND MAINTAIN 11000 FT. WHEN OUT OF 12700 FT, THE CTLR CALLED AND SAID THAT WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS 40 DME S OF ATL AT 15000 FT. I INFORMED THE CTLR THAT I READ BACK, CROSS 40 DME S AT 11000 FT, AND DID THEY WANT ME TO CLB TO 15000 FT OR GO ON TO 11000 FT. THE CTLR SAID MAINTAIN 11000 FT. THE CTLR SHOULD LISTEN BETTER TO ALL READBACKS AND MAKE CORRECTIONS IF READBACK IS NOT CORRECT.
