Narrative:
Lga ground control, taxi out at lga. On departure from gate we were given instructions to take taxiway akb to runway 22. Approaching taxiway T on taxiway B, I asked ground if they wanted us to follow the commuter in front of us. Ground replied yes, follow the commuter to runway 22. The commuter had just turned onto taxiway right from taxiway P. Passing taxiway south I looked down to get one of the numerous ACARS WX messages that we received on every outbound taxi during this sequence. I suddenly heard ground say, 'air carrier X, stop, stop, stop.' the captain stopped just short of the hold line for runway 22 and I looked up to find taxiway right off our right wingtip. In retrospect, I should not have been looking down just as a turn was coming up. I feel the distraction of frequent ACARS messages during taxi out or in, poses a real hazard to flcs. On that same sequence, during taxi out at dfw, we received 5 ACARS messages during our 7 min taxi out. None of them had to do with departure WX or anything that would influence a go/no-go decision. Nonpertinent WX messages should be delayed until airborne just as the destination WX and flight log messages are.

Title: PIC OF S80 NEARLY CROSSES THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 22 AT LGA BUT FOR THE CTLR INTERVENTION. FO COMPLAINT OF AIRLINE MGMNT POLICY ON ACARS WX RPTS AND THEIR DISTR TO THE FLCS.
Narrative: LGA GND CTL, TAXI OUT AT LGA. ON DEP FROM GATE WE WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TAKE TXWY AKB TO RWY 22. APCHING TXWY T ON TXWY B, I ASKED GND IF THEY WANTED US TO FOLLOW THE COMMUTER IN FRONT OF US. GND REPLIED YES, FOLLOW THE COMMUTER TO RWY 22. THE COMMUTER HAD JUST TURNED ONTO TXWY R FROM TXWY P. PASSING TXWY S I LOOKED DOWN TO GET ONE OF THE NUMEROUS ACARS WX MESSAGES THAT WE RECEIVED ON EVERY OUTBOUND TAXI DURING THIS SEQUENCE. I SUDDENLY HEARD GND SAY, 'ACR X, STOP, STOP, STOP.' THE CAPT STOPPED JUST SHORT OF THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 22 AND I LOOKED UP TO FIND TXWY R OFF OUR R WINGTIP. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LOOKING DOWN JUST AS A TURN WAS COMING UP. I FEEL THE DISTR OF FREQUENT ACARS MESSAGES DURING TAXI OUT OR IN, POSES A REAL HAZARD TO FLCS. ON THAT SAME SEQUENCE, DURING TAXI OUT AT DFW, WE RECEIVED 5 ACARS MESSAGES DURING OUR 7 MIN TAXI OUT. NONE OF THEM HAD TO DO WITH DEP WX OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD INFLUENCE A GO/NO-GO DECISION. NONPERTINENT WX MESSAGES SHOULD BE DELAYED UNTIL AIRBORNE JUST AS THE DEST WX AND FLT LOG MESSAGES ARE.
