Narrative:

Commencing our takeoff roll on runway 35 at pns, at approximately 60- 65 KTS, a loud bang or pop was heard, followed by a strong yawing moment to the left. We aborted the takeoff and exited the runway. A master warning chime and central warning panel caption was noted 'left engine oil.' assessing the problem, we noted low engine oil pressure and an extremely high itt. Subsequently, the left condition lever was brought to fuel off. The flight attendant called the cockpit, reporting smoke and flames from the left engine. Not knowing the extent of the fire (problem), the aircraft was positioned so that the tower could provide some visual assistance. Meanwhile the left itt remained extremely hot, therefore, the captain elected to pull the fire handle and extinguish the bottle into the engine. After securing the fire, the flight attendant was notified to perform an expeditious precautionary evacuate/evacuation utilizing the air stairs. All 13 passenger were secured at a point far from the aircraft. No injuries were associated or reported. The fire department verified that the aircraft was secure. We then followed company and FAA policies and procedures.
