Narrative:
I was at the GA ramp and was cleared to taxi to runway 18L and was to hold short of runway 23 at taxiway X. As I approached runway 23 on taxiway X, I turned left and rounded the corner at intersection Y. Then ground control cleared me to cross runway 23 and taxi to hold short runway 18L. Being faced toward runway 18L I began to taxi forward and crossed runway 18L instead of runway 23 by mistake. During my taxi across runway 18L, an air carrier flight had been cleared for takeoff and had begun their roll. Looking to the right, I saw the air carrier jet and expedited across where I realized my mistake. The air carrier flight aborted their takeoff roll and exited runway 18L at intersection Y also. Being cleared to runway 18L wasn't unusual for me, but the route I had always been given to runway 18L was via intersection Y to taxiway Z to cross runway 23 -- that is the route I took mistakenly. The clearance to taxi to runway 18L, hold short at taxiway X was unusual for me. Had the ground controller seen me facing toward runway 18L maybe she could have prevented my mistake. I was in no hurry or rushing, I just took the route I had always been given in the past. Heightened awareness on my part and the ground controller's part could have prevented this.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR PLT ON A POSITIONING FLT CROSSES RWY 18L IN VIOLATION OF CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS. SAID HE WAS CONFUSED AND TOOK RTE THAT HE WAS USED TO GETTING. ACR FLT ON TKOF ROLL HAD TO ABORT THEIR TKOF.
Narrative: I WAS AT THE GA RAMP AND WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 18L AND WAS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23 AT TXWY X. AS I APCHED RWY 23 ON TXWY X, I TURNED L AND ROUNDED THE CORNER AT INTXN Y. THEN GND CTL CLRED ME TO CROSS RWY 23 AND TAXI TO HOLD SHORT RWY 18L. BEING FACED TOWARD RWY 18L I BEGAN TO TAXI FORWARD AND CROSSED RWY 18L INSTEAD OF RWY 23 BY MISTAKE. DURING MY TAXI ACROSS RWY 18L, AN ACR FLT HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF AND HAD BEGUN THEIR ROLL. LOOKING TO THE R, I SAW THE ACR JET AND EXPEDITED ACROSS WHERE I REALIZED MY MISTAKE. THE ACR FLT ABORTED THEIR TKOF ROLL AND EXITED RWY 18L AT INTXN Y ALSO. BEING CLRED TO RWY 18L WASN'T UNUSUAL FOR ME, BUT THE RTE I HAD ALWAYS BEEN GIVEN TO RWY 18L WAS VIA INTXN Y TO TXWY Z TO CROSS RWY 23 -- THAT IS THE RTE I TOOK MISTAKENLY. THE CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 18L, HOLD SHORT AT TXWY X WAS UNUSUAL FOR ME. HAD THE GND CTLR SEEN ME FACING TOWARD RWY 18L MAYBE SHE COULD HAVE PREVENTED MY MISTAKE. I WAS IN NO HURRY OR RUSHING, I JUST TOOK THE RTE I HAD ALWAYS BEEN GIVEN IN THE PAST. HEIGHTENED AWARENESS ON MY PART AND THE GND CTLR'S PART COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS.
