Narrative:
I started my descent into durango, I switched my tank to the fullest tank for landing. Soon after switching the engine quit. Immediately I switched back to the tank that I had been using and used the high boost pump for approximately 45 seconds. To no avail after attempting the restart procedures, the engine did not regain power. With altitude becoming an issue, I turned toward my only option and prepared for an emergency landing. At touchdown in a rugged sage brush field the aircraft bounced twice, struck a fence at which sheared the nose gear off and made the airplane come to a complete stop. Corrective actions: the abq FSS should get back the phone lines that were taken away to alleviate extensive delays.
