Narrative:
BA32 cruising at 9000 ft en route from lax to san. Pilot advised that he had a TCASII at left, and climbed 1000 ft to 10000 ft. The closest aircraft was 8.69 mi in front of the BA32 descending through 8700 ft. The flight crew said TCASII indicated that there was traffic 100 ft below.
