Narrative:

Got a complicated clearance from miami, one that I was used to hearing, except a clearance to climb to FL310 after joses, the fir. I was very busy explaining the clearance and how to enter it into the FMC to a brand new first officer and did not initiate the climb to FL310 until reminded by ZMA. It was approximately 10 mi late. A captain's first responsibility is to aviate and his second is to show a new guy the ropes.
