Narrative:
ATC facility: ZAB or ZLA. Location: blh. After crossing blh, autoplt went from VOR track to VOR course, autoplt did not capture on the newly selected outbound course. At 26 DME east of blh, ATC informed us we were south of the airway and about to enter a restr area. ATC instructed us to turn left and intercept the airway. ATC wanted us to verify assigned routing. We agreed on the assigned routing. Looking back, the crew should have monitored the autoplt closer when a course change occurred.
