Medium large transport aircraft taxiing at night with clearance to hold short of runway. Reporter captain reports the flight crew was confused at the intersection of taxiway sg and taxiway C resulting in crossing the runway hold line. Ground controller intervened and stopped the flight crew from continuing. Reporter says that lack of taxi edge lights also makes it difficult to identify txwys. Also contributing, was fatigue.

Narrative:

Cleared to taxi to runway 1R via taxiway south to taxiway C to runway 1R. Missed taxiway C due to confusion at the intersection of taxiway sg and taxiway C. Taxied just past hold line when told to stop by ground control. Stopped about 50 ft short of runway edge. No conflict with other traffic. Las is unusual in that there are no taxiway edge lights -- just green centerline lights. Doing checklists, trying to get a new ATIS, and fatigue due to the time of night, compounded a different visual picture which caused me to miss the taxiway sign and runway hold line.
