Narrative:

Told to cross 85 mi south of fak at FL270 when 140 mi south. I was reviewing emergency procedures, just for something to do, and forgot about the crossing restr. At about 93 mi out, ATC asked if we would make the restr and we said no. He said ok, but start down now with a good rate. We asked if there was a conflict and he replied no. Solution: put an audible countdown timer in cockpit as reminder -- useful to monitor fuel balancing operations also, ie, set for 2 mins or 5 mins, etc.
